The deep ocean is mysterious and scary place once you get to the places where no light from the surface can reach, but that’s exactly where you’re heading in Dive the Depths, as seen during the Light Up Games showcase at theFuture Games Showat Gamescom Presented by Sid Meier’s Civilization® VII.

In this action-roguelike, you play as a humble diver sent down to these foreboding depths in search of secrets, but you’ll soon find that deep below the waves the environment is anything but hospitable. You’ll discover a huge variety of weird and wonderful sea creatures, and while some of them may be friendly there will be many more that won’t welcome you into their home, so you must do what you have to in order to survive.

Push on further into the darkness and you’ll start encountering epic boss battles, which are the true terror of the deep, with each of these deadly adversaries introduced by a splash screen naming them at the start of the fight. While some of these involve studying the methodical movements of your foe and working out the best moment to counter, others quickly descend into full bullet hell madness where quick reactions are the only thing that will keep you alive.

To aid your progress, there are many unique weapon abilities you can unlock, plus countless items to find and combine to build up powerful stat boosts and synergies. Defeating bosses will also provide a significant reward, as you can then choose one of their traits to learn and inherit a potent amount of power.
