As predicted, many are wondering where to buy the PS5 disc drive now that the PS5 Pro is out in the wild only to find that stock is running particularly low. At the time of writing there aren’t any drives on the shelves, but retailers have taken hits like this before and come back swinging. If previous shortages are anything to go by, we’ll be seeing more waves landing on these digital aisles shortly - though they might get snapped up a little quicker this holiday season.
You’ll need to be in the right place at the right time to buy a PS5 disc drive right now, but I’d recommend US hunters check outBest Buyfirst. This retailer has had regular restocks over the last few months - far more than others - which means it could be the first place to drop new units in the next few days. In the UK, it’s worth keeping in touch withArgos, which sorts its stock by postcode therefore giving you a slightly better shot, orCurrys, which has seen more restocks overall.
The official PS5 disc drive costs $79.99 / £99.99 and is a requiredPS5 accessoryfor anyone who wants to play physical games on aPS5 Proor a digital edition PS5 Slim. The combined price of a PS5 Slim Digital Edition and a PS5 disc drive does exceed the cost of a full-fat PS5 Slim (with the disc drive permanently attached), so if you’re on the cusp of picking up a console it’s well worth spending the extra on the main release. Of course, if you’re upgrading your system you’ve come to the exact right place.
I’ve been scouring the web for the retailers offering these hard to find drives, and you’ll find all my treasure just below.
November 7, 12:31 pm ET-The PS5 Pro is here, which means PS5 Disc Drive stock has been completely swept off the shelves. As of my latest stock check, there are no drives on the shelves in either the US or UK. I have updated advice around which retailers to check first, based on previous restock activity.
Where to buy PS5 disc drive in the US
Amazon |Check stockAmazon’s previous PS5 disc drive stock has now dried up, which means it’s one to keep an eye on over the next few days.
Best Buy |Check stockBest Buy has also dipped out of the stock game, but I’ve seen units returning to these shelves more regularly than at other retailers. Keep checking back, because this could be one of the first stores to jump back in.
Walmart |Check stockWalmart does technically have stock of the PS5 disc drive on the shelves, but its price has been inflated to $127 rather than $79.99. Regularly priced drives will return soon enough, so it’s not worth spending over MSRP.
GameStop |Check stock nowGameStop says it has the PS5 disc drive in stock, but I can’t get it to the cart let alone checkout. Considering other shortages in the US right now, this one is probably out for the moment.
Argos |Check stockArgos works based on your post-code, so if stock dries up at larger online retailers today it’s an excellent last-ditch attempt. Simply enter your post code to see if your local area has any PS5 disc drives in stock.
Currys |Check stockCurrys' most recent PS5 disc drive restock only just ran out, but it was this retailer’s second drop of the week. This is one to watch for more chances to buy.
Very |Check stockVery’s latest PS5 disc drive restock has now dried up, with no add-ons available on the shelves. Keep in touch, though, because that last drop lasted a long time.
Amazon |Check stockLike in the US, Amazon UK doesn’t have any disc drives on the shelves right now. There are plenty of other retailers to be getting on with in the UK, but I’d check back regularly if you’re a die-hard Primer.
AO |Check stockAO has just run out of PS5 disc drive stock in the UK, though I’d recommend checking back soon as these supplies held out a little longer than other retailers last time.
ShopTo |Check stockShopTo ran out of stock a while ago, but was happy to keep backorders alive. That’s now come to an end, with a firm ‘out of stock’ message on the site.
